A Day in the Primary Studio

Gentle rhythms. Joyful play. Foundations for a lifetime of learning.

At Sage Academy, our Primary Studio (ages 3–6) offers a rich, Montessori-inspired environment where learners build academic readiness, confidence, and independence through meaningful work and joyful play.

For learners demonstrating readiness for Kindergarten-level skills (usually 5 years or older), the Kinder Studio is embedded within the Primary Studio day. It provides targeted one-on-one instruction, focused Montessori manipulatives, and optional adaptive technology, helping learners refine reading, writing, and math skills while still participating in the full rhythm of the Primary Studio.

Learners unpack and head outside for gross motor play: running, climbing, sliding, sandbox time, and imaginative play in the outdoor kitchen.

Together we explore the season, weather, and date. A short community lesson helps frame the day.

Learners engage in uninterrupted work time across the core Montessori areas: Practical Life, Language, Math, Sensorial, and Geography. Guides present one-on-one and small-group lessons tailored to each learner’s readiness. A self-serve snack is available during this time.

An energetic break filled with songs, instruments, and movement activities that support rhythm, listening, and coordination.

A shared read-aloud fosters comprehension, conversation, and calm.

Learners are dismissed to wash their hands and prepare their own place settings, pour water, and wait until everyone is ready before beginning lunch, fostering independence and social grace.

Learners eat lunch together, followed by independent clean-up.

Learners enjoy outdoor gross motor activities like running, jumping, climbing, and trike/scooter riding.

Learners enjoy a calming read-aloud before preparing for rest. This transition encourages independence as they follow personal routines like hand washing, getting a drink, and setting up their nap space.

Learners who rest are supported in quiet nap time. Those who wake early or do not nap participate in a second work cycle.

Kinder-ready learners (usually 5 years or older) engage in one-on-one instruction with a guide, focused Montessori manipulatives, and optional adaptive technology for reading, writing, and math, while other learners continue their work cycle in the Primary Studio.

Learners finish their day with a Spanish lesson before packing up and being dismissed for the day.
