A Day in the Discovery Studio

Sage Academy Discovery Program | Ages 6–10
Note: This is our baseline schedule. Seasonal shifts (summer/winter) may bring slight changes.

At Sage Academy, our Discovery Studio (ages 6–10) blends Core Skills, Quest-based learning, and meaningful responsibility in a vibrant, learner-driven environment.

 

We empower learners to set goals, solve problems, and collaborate daily—building academic mastery, strong character, and the confidence to lead their own learning journey.

7:45 – 8:15 

Arrival & Free Art

Learners ease into the day with creative expression and quiet socializing in the studio.

8:15 – 8:45 | Morning Circle

A time to launch the day, build community, and practice respectful discourse—covering greetings, Town Hall, problem-solving, and current topics.

8:45 – 8:50 | Bathroom Break & Transition

Learners take a quick break and gather outdoor essentials in preparation for morning free time, including snacks. 

9:00 – 9:45 | Free Time (Outside) & Snack Time

Unstructured outdoor play to stretch, explore, and socialize—encouraging healthy bodies and strong friendships. Learners are free to snack anytime within the first 35 minutes of free time.

9:45 – 9:50 | Reset & Handwashing

A brief return to order—learners wash hands and reset their focus for the next Work Cycle.

9:50 – 11:30 | Core Skills

Independent, focused time to build foundational math, reading, and writing skills at each learner’s pace.

11:30 – 12:00

Lunch

Learners experience a community-style lunch, while the self-designated lunch monitor gently reminds learners of proper lunchtime rules.

12:00 – 12:15

Clean-Up

Learners take ownership of their space by cleaning up after lunch and preparing for the next part of the day.

Midday & Afternoon

12:15 – 12:30 | DEAR (Drop Everything and Read)

A quiet block for reading—learners dive into books of their choice, building fluency, imagination, and a love of story.

12:30 – 12:45 | Bathroom & Transition

Learners refresh, wash hands, and prepare for afternoon outdoor play.

1:00–2:35 PM

Nap & Afternoon Work Cycle

Another chance to move, create, and connect—developing independence and balance through free outdoor play.

1:15 – 2:00 | Quest Time

Project-based learning time focused on real-world challenges, creativity, and collaboration across disciplines.

12:45 – 1:15 | Free Time (Outside)

Another chance to move, create, and connect—developing independence and balance through free outdoor play.

2:00 – 2:45 | Work Cycle

A flexible, learner-directed time for finishing Quest work, journaling, pursuing studio goals, or extending Core Skills.
A couple of times a week, this time is spent in the Writers Workshop, learning about both historical and modern-day poetry heroes.

2:45 – 3:05 | Studio Maintenance

The studio is broken up into zones and jobs are assigned. Learners work together to clean, organize, and care for their space—building responsibility and pride in their environment.

3:05 – 3:15 | Socratic Close & Reflection

A daily reflection circle to share wins, challenges, and growth—closing the day with intention and connection.

3:15 | Dismissal

Learners pack up and head home, ready to rest and recharge.
