A Day in the Primary Studio

Gentle rhythms. Joyful play. Foundations for a lifetime of learning.

At Sage Academy, our Primary Studio (ages 3–6) offers a rich, Montessori-inspired environment where learners build academic readiness, confidence, and independence through meaningful work and joyful play.

We meet learners where they are—nurturing curiosity, supporting emerging skills, and creating space for focused growth within a predictable daily rhythm.

Lead Guide

8:30–9:20 AM – Arrival & Free Time

Learners unpack and head outside for gross motor play: running, climbing, sliding, sandbox time, and imaginative play in the outdoor kitchen.

9:20–9:30 AM – Group Time & Calendar

Together we explore the season, weather, and date. A short community lesson helps frame the day.

9:30–11:00 AM

Work Cycle & Snack

Learners engage in uninterrupted work time across the core Montessori areas: Practical Life, Language, Math, Sensorial, and Geography. Guides present one-on-one and small-group lessons tailored to each learner’s readiness. A self-serve snack is available during this time.

11:00–11:20 AM

Music & Movement

An energetic break filled with songs, instruments, and movement activities that support rhythm, listening, and coordination.

11:20–11:30 AM

Story Time

A shared read-aloud fosters comprehension, conversation, and calm.

11:30–11:40 AM Lunch Prep

Learners are dismissed to wash their hands and prepare their own place settings, pour water, and wait until everyone is ready before beginning lunch, fostering independence and social grace.

11:40 AM–12:00 PM  Lunch

Learners eat lunch together, followed by independent clean-up.

Midday & Afternoon

12:00–12:45 PM

Free Time

Learners enjoy outdoor gross motor activities like running, jumping, climbing, and trike/scooter riding.

12:45–1:00 PM

Story Time & Nap Prep

Learners enjoy a calming read-aloud before preparing for rest. This transition encourages independence as they follow personal routines like hand washing, getting a drink, and setting up their nap space.

1:00–2:35 PM

Nap & Afternoon Work Cycle

Learners who rest are supported in quiet nap time. Those who wake early or do not nap engage in a second work cycle focused on pre-reading and early math skills, following Montessori’s sequence of foundational academics.

1:00–2:35 PM

Rest & Afternoon Work Cycle

Learners who need rest are given a peaceful environment to nap. Those who remain awake engage in a shorter, guide-led work cycle with materials focused on pre-reading, phonemic awareness, number sense, and early writing. For learners who are ready, this includes progressing through Kindergarten-level Montessori curriculum to support a confident transition into elementary.
